Reynaldo L. Esguerra

National President

“Rey” Esguerra currently heads the Integrated Program on Cleaner Production Technologies (http://cptech.dost.gov.ph) of the Industrial Technology Development Institute-Department of Science and Technology (DOST).  A graduate of the Mapua Institute of Technology, Rey is also the Vice-President of the PIChE-DOST Chapter.  He was also the PIChE National Secretary in 2006 and PIChE National PRO in 2007.  He has been reelected this year as Vice President for the National Capital Region.

Rey looks forward to the active participation of all chemical engineers and PIChE chapters in continuing the BIG LEAP made in 2008, particularly in the drafting of the Code of Technical Standards for the practice of chemical engineering for the major industries.

 

  

 

Ferdinand C. Zapanta

"Ferdie" Zapanta is  a part time consultant on Quality and Productivity. He retired from San Miguel Corporate Quality Management as Quality Specialist.

He worked with San Miguel for 29 years with 13 years of which as Brewery supervisor at Polo Brewery Brewing department. An active member of Polo Chapter since its foundation, he served as the chapter secretary until his election as PIChE National Secretary. He is also actively working with Educhild Foundation an NGO handling parenting and family  courses.

  

  

Josephine Q. Borja

Josie Borja is a Chemical Engineering graduate of Adamson University. She finished her MSChE and PhDChE from De La Salle University. Currently, she is the Chair of the Chemical Engineering Department of De La Salle University-Manila.  

Josie has been an officer of PIChE-MMAC since 2003 and currently, she is the President of the chapter.  

She believes that with the strong commitment of the officers and full support of the members, PIChE will be able to attain its goals.

  

  

 
Susan A. Mamitag

Susan “San” Mamitag is currently the Materials and Quality Control Engineer of City Engineering Office, Local Government of Baguio City. She is a graduate of Saint Louis University, Baguio City. Before putting her heart to public service, she was employed in Texas Instruments (Phil.), Inc. as Quality Specialist.  She has been an active member of the Baguio-Benguet where she served as director in 1996-97, now elected to the National Board as Vice President for Luzon.   

"San" believes that through full support and cooperation among members from different chapters to PIChE will surely build a strong foundation for its continued growth and success.

  

 
Susan C. Benitez

“Susan” Benitez is currently the Vice President for Production of Asian Alcohol Corporation.  She finished her Masters in Chemical Engineering at Central Philippine University, Iloilo City. She was an active member  of PIChE Negros Occidental Chapter since 1990 and  served as PIChE-NOC director for sometime.  She focused her Chemical Engineering Profession in Environmental Protection and Alcohol Distillery operations.

She is a recipient of 2009 Outstanding Chemical Engineer Award (Industry category for Environmental Management) for her significant and dedicated accomplishments in the field of Industry Environmental Management in pursuit of excellence in the practice of Chemical Engineering Profession.  She was elected as PIChE Director for Visayas during the 2009 Annual Convention.

 

  

Rex Manuel P. Paayas

“Rex” Manuel Paayas is the Thermal Process Specialist in the Corporate QA of Del Monte Philippines Incorporated. An active member of PIChE since 1990, he became the Cagayan de Oro Chapter President in 2007.  He was elected to the National Board in 2008 as PIChE National Director for Mindanao and re-elected in 2009 as the PIChE National VP-Mindanao. He was again elected this year as PIChE National VP-Mindanao. He was the author of the Annual PIChE Mindanao Joint Chapters Plant Tour that is already in its 4th year this October 2011.  PIChE opened to him new challenges and opportunities in the field of Chemical Engineering. It greatly contributes to his growth professionally as a Chemical Engineer. 

For his unwavering commitment, unselfish dedication and leadership in uplifting and enriching the level of competence of Chemical Engineers specially in Mindanao and spearheading the first oath-taking ceremonies of Chemical Engineers in Cagayan de Oro City and conducted for the first time the same event even before the national oath taking ceremonies, he was given a “Token of Recognition” by the PRC Board of Chemical Engineering on May 2010.

  

  

 
Benilda S. Ebarvia

Benilda “Beng” S. Ebarvia had finished her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering  from Feati University and had earned her MS and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from the University of Santo Tomas (UST).   She had served as the treasurer of PICHE-DOST Chapter since 2005 and is currently the President of the said Chapter.  Beng is affiliated with the Industrial Technology Development Institute of the Department of Science and Technology as a Senior Science Research Specialist.  Her research interests include the development of piezoelectric chemical sensors for residual antibiotics based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) and conducting polymers, as well as solid phase extraction of contaminants in foods using MIPs as sorbent material.  Likewise, she is an Associate Professorial Lecturer III at the Graduate School, UST since 2006 to present.

  

 
Ryan M. Venzon

Ryan Macapagal Venzon, or Rye, was PIChE-Bataan's President for 2010-2011 prior to his election as PIChE-National Treasurer in 2011. After graduating from the University of Santo Tomas in 2003, he was hired in Petron Bataan Refinery as a Process Engineer. He then handled shifting assignment as Operations Supervisor before he was assigned to his current position as Chief Process Engineer in 2011. He believes that his Thomasian education and Petron experience has made him the versatile, reliable and innovative Chemical Engineer that he always aspires for. In his spare time, he enjoys playing with his dogs, reading books and watching comedy shows like 30 Rock and The Office. He was born in Candaba, Pampanga but has spent most of his life in Sampaloc, Manila.

  

 

Chamaigne Luz D. Jamandre

Chamaigne Luz S. de la Gente- Jamandre is PIChE-Panay President in 1999, 2000 and 2007 to the present. She has served PIChE as National Secretary in 2001 and 2002 and as Board of Director in 2004. Holder of Master in Engineering and Master in Industrial Technology,  she is currently connected with the Chemical Engineering Department of the College of Engineering and Architecture of the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City. She is an experienced product developer and researcher, an entrepreneur, Manufacturing Productivity improvement, Cleaner Production and Energy Audit technical consultant/assessor. 

  

  

  

Marlon B. Avanzado

Marlon B. Avanzado has been with Coca-Cola Bottler’s Philippines, Inc. (CCBPI) for 14 years now and is currently the Quality, Environment and Safety Manager  in its Canlubang Plant. He started in CCBPI as Quality Control Technician (Sta. Rosa Plant 2 until 2002), Fountain Quality Assurance Representative (Head Office 2003 – 2006), Special Assignment as Water Quality Assurance Specialist (June-Dec. 2006), Special Assignment as Quality Assurance Head (Wilkins Gen. Trias Plant, Jan. 2007- Sept. 2008), and Quality Assurance Manager (Canlubang Plant Oct. 2008 - Dec. 2009).

Before he joined CCBPI, he worked as a Research Assistant and Technical Officer at the UPLB Wood Science and Technology.

Marlon has a BS Chemical Engineering degree from the University of the Philippines at Los Banos (1997), Diploma and Master’s Degree on Environment and Natural Resources Management from the Open University at Los Banos (2002 and 2008, respectively).

He is currently the President of PICHE Laguna Chapter.

  

  

  

  

  

Alejandro A. Silagan

Al is a graduate of Eastern Visayas State University (formerly Leyte Institute of Technology) in Tacloban City.  Despite his tight schedules being the Production Manager of Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines in Tacloban, he makes sure that PIChE Activities are accomplished according to the Chapter’s Annual Business Plan.  He is currently the President of PIChE-Tacloban Chapter, and believes that there is no reason for every chemical engineer to be passive and inert in his/her obligation to the profession.  He shares the vision of the College of Fellows that it is our duty as chemical engineers to give back to the profession that we are benefiting from.

  

 

  

Estrellita A. Malim

Hi, Estrellita “Baby” A Malim, a National Director from Mindanao for the first time may be because yours truly has been the president cy 2006-2007 , davao chapter and actively participated in every activities that PICHE davao undertakes.

At DA-BFAR handles the  Chief, of  Regional Quality Control Laboratory, Member of Davao Food Safety Team, Serves as Resource Speaker/Consultant on  Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures, Hazard Analysis Control Point, ISO 22000, and Post Harvest Technology on Fisheries. Inclusion of accredited consultant for MPEX and CAPE Program of DOST. Finally has been 32 years in government service  and happily married to a mestizo chinese from davao city, blessed with 5 children.

  

  

  

  

Richard Sumera 

Director for Mindanao

Richard Sumera is the youngest member of the National Board this year. He has been with Dole Philippines, Incorporated for almost three years as a Supervisor, and later a Superintendent,in the Plastic Containers and Flexible Packaging Department under the Cannery Operations Division. He handled various functions and gained experience in the plastic containers operations, flexible packaging operations, tropical and deciduous fruit preparation operations, and dried fruit operations. He has recently transferred to the New Products Development and Applied Technology Department as a Food Technologist.

Richard is an alumnus of Ateneo de Davao University. He graduated with flying colors last March 2007 and passed the PRC Licensure examinations on the November of that same year. To further hone his skills and expertise, he is currently studying at the University of the Philippines- Open University in the Master of Environment and Natural Resources Management course.

On a lighter note, he is very adventurous, interesting, and conveys a good sense of humor. He loves to eat and try exotic food and delicacies. He also enjoys travelling and nature tripping

  

  

 

  

Cezar S. De la Cruz

Cezar de la Cruz recently retired as Assistant Brewmaster Brewing Superintendent after 24 years at the San Miguel Brewery Inc.- Polo Brewery Plant at Valenzuela, Metro Manila.  He has been an active member of the PIChE Polo Chapter where he served as President for two terms.  He was elected to the National Board in 2006 as Director for Metro Manila and has since been reelected as Vice President for Metro Manila in 2007 and as the National  Executive Vice President and 70th National Convention chair in 2008 and as PIChE President for two terms in 2009 and 2010.    

His “love” for PIChE has earned him the PIChE Presidential Award in the 69th National Convention and was given the Award of Recognition by the PRC Board of Chemical Engineering on May 2011.  He is currently the Vice-President for Internal Affairs of the Philippine Technological Council and is a Trustee Director of the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations..    

  

 
Eriberto D. Pineda

Eriberto "Bert" D. Pineda is the current Chairman of the PIChE Council of Advisers, a past National President of PIChE(1999-2000), and also the current president of the Industrial Research Foundation (IRF).

He is assuring  that the Council of Advisers made up of the past National Presidents of PIChE will give full support to the programs and projects of the new National Board of Directors.
